Greenmarket Square

 

This is where Capetonians have been buying their clothing, jewellery, sandals, crafts and nick-nacks for years, and, whilst the face of the market may have changed a little - African curios now predominate - there is still an exciting buzz as well as evidence of the city’s most colourful and eccentric characters.

Greenmarket Square is unbeatable value too. You can pick up local art, crafts, fabrics and artifacts from almost every country on the continent at this open-air gathering place. Bartering is the name of the game on the square, which used to function as a trading area for passing ships.

Today Greenmarket Square is bordered by a selection of restaurants and cafés that provide ample opportunity to people-watch and enjoy local food and drinks. There are an few coffee shops and restaurants bordering on Greenmarket Square, convenient for customers who need to relax after shopping.

The square was originally built in 1696, when the first burgher watch house was erected here

Long Street 

 

The CBD is the heart of Cape Town, and Long Street is its major artery. Running all the way from the Cape Town Convention Centre, cutting through the middle of the CBD, and ending at Kloof Street, Long Street is a major part of the city’s street culture.

During the day the street is a full with people visiting the interesting shops and cafés that line the street, and when the sun drops behind the mountain the activity intensifies around the street’s many restaurants, bars, and clubs.

Company Gardens

 

Roaming Company's Gardenis part of every visitor’s schedule to Cape Town, and well worth the visit. 

Lunch hour in Company's Garden is generally teeming with locals, who seek out the fresh air and beautiful views of Table Mountain. The tree-lined avenue, with its benches and resident squirrels, forms a pathway between the suburb of Gardens and the city centre, and there are a number of other important buildings within the garden - the South African Museum, the Planetarium and the South African Art Gallery included. 

Company's Garden is the oldest garden in the country. It has its origins in Jan van Riebeeck’s vegetable garden, which he grew to feed the original colony as early as 1652
Company's Garden is intricately bound with the arts in South Africa. Not only is there an art gallery within the park, but it is also the venue of a number of festivals, including the Human Rights Concert and the Youth Festival. 

Table Mountain Cable Car

 

The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway is a cable car transportation system offering visitors a five-minute ride to the top of Table Mountain in Cape TownSouth Africa.

 

It is one of Cape Town's most popular tourist attractions with approximately 900,000 people a year using the Cableway.[4] In February 2016, the Cableway welcomed its 25 millionth visitor.

The upper cable station in on the westernmost end of the Table Mountain plateau, at an elevation of 1,067 metres (3,501 ft).

 

The upper cable station offers views over Cape Town, Table Bay and Robben Island to the north, and the Atlantic seaboard to the west and south. Amenities at the upper station include free guided walking tours, an audio tour, meals and internet access.

A Must See in Cape Town. It is like the hub of Cape Town. Shops, restaurants, cafes, cinema, craft markets, stores, local artists, boat tours, street performers, ferris wheel, Zeitz Mocaa Art museum, music, etc. Very vibrant! It is also where you start your hop on hop off bus tours.
